The Riccucci-O’Leary Award is given annually for the best article on diversity, broadly defined, published in JPART or PPMG.

2025 Riccucci-O’Leary Award

The Public Management Research Association is proud to recognize Ryan Lofaro and Alka Sapat as recipients of this year’s Riccucci-O'Leary Award, honoring outstanding work in the study of social equity, representation, and justice in public administration.
Their article, titled “Deservingness, Humanness, and Representation Through Lived Experience: Analyzing First Responders’ Attitudes” (Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, 34(4), 2024, pp. 563–581), was selected for its excellence and relevance to advancing public management scholarship.

Eligible articles must have been published in JPART or PPMG during the applicable award year.

Application Process

Eligible articles are identified and reviewed by the award committee.

Assessment Criteria

Articles are evaluated based on their contribution to understanding diversity in public management, theoretical significance, and methodological rigor.

Award

The award is presented at the 2026 Public Management Research Conference, June 4–6, 2026, at American University in Washington, D.C.

The award includes a $500 USD cash award.
