Call for Expressions of Interest | Secretariat for the Public Management Research Association (PMRA)
The Public Management Research Association (PMRA), a leading academic organization dedicated to advancing research on public organizations and their management, seeks expressions of interest from universities that want to explore becoming the new Association Secretariat. PMRA has a long history of partnerships with research universities. The Association has had a university-based Secretariat since 2001 and holds its annual Public Management Research Conference (PMRC), the foremost global gathering of the field’s scholars, at research universities around the world.
Secretariat Roles and Responsibilities
We seek a host university with a commitment to excellence in public management research and teaching to serve as the PMRA Secretariat. The host university will provide in-kind support services for PMRA, including:
➡️ Membership Management: Assistance with member outreach, engagement, and growth initiatives and oversight of the membership database.
➡️ Communications Management: Creation of marketing and promotional materials, including development and distribution of an e-newsletter and maintenance of the website.
➡️ Administrative and Logistical Support: Assistance with PMRC records, meetings, and events.
This portfolio of activities requires an average of 15 hours per week and could be provided by a graduate student (at the master’s or doctoral level) or a staff member. The individual who assumes this role will work closely with the PMRA Manager and the PMRA Executive Board and should be detail-oriented, able to work independently and manage multiple tasks, proficient in website management and basic graphic design, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. We anticipate the Secretariat role will begin on or about August 1, 2025 and would like at least a five year commitment from the host university.
Key Benefits of the Secretariat Position
The PMRA Secretariat is an important institutional partner featured on the website, in newsletters, and at conferences and other events. This prominent branding generates global recognition of the host university and the Secretariat’s personnel, resulting in greater visibility and standing as a leader in public management research. Additional reputational benefits emerge from support of high-impact research endeavors and academic collaborations and increased access to networks of top scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
Next Steps
If your university would like to learn more about and be considered for the Secretariat role, please submit a brief expression of interest that outlines your institution’s relevant experience and capacity to undertake the duties and responsibilities discussed above. Expressions of interest may be submitted to Kellye Mazzoli ([email protected]). If you have questions or would like to discuss the position further before submitting an expression of interest, please contact the PMRA President, Dr. Robert Christensen ([email protected]), or the PMRA Vice President, Dr. Lael Keiser ([email protected]).
